Description The dock of Dusseldorf's old shelter harbour has been fully restored in its former dimensions. The protective walls against riverine floods still exist.D1, a vintage fishing vessel, reminds locals and tourists of the times gone by, when there were plenty of fishermen earning their daily bread on the river Rhine. It's an 'Aalschokker', a special kind of fishing boat developed on the former island of Schokland in the Dutch Zuiderzee. Hence the name 'Schokker'. On the Rhine these once were used to catch eels by hanging a trawl right into the main flow of the river at night.
